Our History: A Family Legacy, 35 Years in the Making

From humble beginnings to a name Colorado Springs families trust, Home Heating Service has proudly served our community since 1988. Our story is rooted in family, built on hard work, and guided by a simple promise: always do right by our customers.

Where It All Began

Home Heating Service, Inc. began right here in Colorado Springs, with humble roots and a bold leap of faith. In 1988, the company was founded by a father-and-son team, and just a year later, in the fall of 1989, Kyle Gateley joined their small but determined crew.


A few conversations over coffee—and a few more over beers—led to a life-changing decision. By the spring of 1990, Kyle officially bought the business. On April 1st of that year, the company was incorporated, and the foundation of a long-standing family legacy was set.

Back then, operations ran out of a modest warehouse on Jeannine Drive with just two employees—a technician and an office assistant—and a loft that doubled as the office. It was a modest setup, but full of potential.


1990 was a milestone year for the Gateley family in more ways than one. Kyle and his wife, Pam, were both 35 years old, and within just a few months, they bought a house, invested in the business, and welcomed their son, Jordan.


Later that summer, Kyle became the sole owner of the company. In 1992, Pam stepped in to help run the office, initially volunteering during the day while working a second job at a law office at night. Eventually, she left her bookkeeping job and officially joined the team full-time, answering phones from home and raising four kids, often doing both at once. Many nights ended with Kyle and Pam stamping checks at the kitchen table, preparing the day’s deposits together.


As the business grew, so did the team and the services. One of the most impactful hires came in 1996, when Fred joined the company. Over the years, Fred became a cornerstone of the operation and now serves as our Install and Service Manager.


Around 1998, the company moved into a larger warehouse on Ford Street, and in 2003, the Gateleys purchased the lot on Tuskegee Drive, which remains our home base today. Plumbing services were also added along the way to better serve our customers with whole-home solutions.

Passing the Torch

Jordan’s connection to the company began long before ownership. In the summer of 2006, while still in high school, he worked alongside the team during school breaks, learning the ins and outs of the business from the ground up. By 2009, he officially joined the company full-time, continuing to gain experience in the fi eld and behind the scenes.



In 2025, after 35 years of ownership, Kyle and Pam passed the business to their son Jordan, who, fi ttingly, was also 35 at the time. (Yes, there’s defi nitely something special about the number 35.) Jordan and his wife, Melissa, purchased the company together, stepping into leadership with the same family-fi rst values and commitment to service and integrity that have always defi ned Home Heating Service. Jordan also holds his Master Mechanical license, a testament to his deep expertise and hands-on experience in the HVAC fi eld.

Melissa, a Registered Nurse with degrees in both Athletic Training and Nursing, also grew up in Colorado Springs. Her compassion, attention to detail, and strong work ethic carry over into her role at Home Heating Service, where she supports the team behind the scenes while continuing her nursing work. She helps carry the family legacy forward with care and purpose.


Jordan and Melissa are now raising two young boys of their own right here in Colorado Springs. When they’re not working, they love to play tennis, go golfing, and take their boys off-roading and exploring all the incredible places Colorado has to offer.


Having grown up around the business, Jordan understands firsthand what it means to lead with honesty and hard work. He now carries the torch into a new generation, supported by his sister, Chelsea, who continues to play an important role in the company’s mission and day-to-day operations.


Chelsea joined Home Heating in October 2012 after deciding it was time for a change, and her dad, Kyle, offered her a spot on the team. What began as part-time office work while attending college grew into a full-time role and a degree in Business with a minor in Entrepreneurship. Over the years, Chelsea has worn many hats, from CSR to invoice reconciliation, and now serves as our bookkeeper. Home Heating also gives Chelsea the fl exibility to pursue her passion for health and fi tness—a lifestyle she embraces alongside her role on the team. A proud mom to Calvin, our beloved shop dog and unofficial head of entertainment, she keeps our team smiling every day.


While some faces have changed over the years, the heart of Home Heating Service hasn’t.

Looking Back

A few milestones in our journey:

  • 1988 – Company founded by a father-son team in Colorado Springs
  • 1989 – Kyle joins the team
  • 1990 – Kyle purchases the company and incorporates Home Heating Service, Inc.
  • 1992 – Pam officially joins the company
  • 1996 – Fred joins the team, now our Install & Service Manager
  • 1998 – Company moves into larger warehouse on Ford Street
  • 2003 – We move into our current home on Tuskegee Drive
  • 2006 – Jordan started working for the family business over his summer breaks
  • 2009 – Jordan joins the company full-time
  • 2012 – Chelsea becomes an integral part of the family business
  • 2023 – Plumbing services added to offer full-service home solutions
  • 2025 – Kyle and Pam retire and pass the business to Jordan and Melissa


Each milestone is a reminder of how far we’ve come—and why we’re so grateful to still be serving our neighbors after all these years.

Values That Last

We’ve come a long way since our start, but some things haven’t changed.


We’re still family-owned. Still locally rooted. Still focused on doing the right thing. We listen fi rst, solve with integrity, and treat every home like it’s our own.


Kyle and Pam are now enjoying retirement: traveling, spending time with grandkids, and squeezing in just the right amount of golf, tennis, and pickleball. But the legacy they built lives on every time we answer the phone, show up at a customer’s door, or fi x a system the right way, not the easy way.



That’s what Home Heating Service has always been about: family, integrity, and taking care of people—the same way we would our own.
