How does geothermal work?
Outdoor air temperatures fluctuate throughout the year with the changing seasons, however, ground temperatures only about four to six feet underground remain at a relatively moderate temperature all year long. This is because the earth absorbs about 47% of all the heat energy from the sun that reaches the earths surface. A geothermal system takes advantage of this natural heat by circulating a water based fluid through a system of buried loops, collecting heat and pumping it into the house; and by reversing the process in the summer, pumping the heat out. This process can cut your utility bills up to 70% and provide some of your hot water as well!
